As compared to all the cancers, skin cancer is believed to be taking its toll over a large number of people every year. Recently, the researchers of the Mayo Clinic conducted a study in which they found that majority of the people are being affected with deadly skin cancer. Too much of exposure to the UV rays is believed to be the reason behind the dramatic surge in the number of skin cancer cases.
Lead researcher of the study, Jerry Brewer, was reported as saying, ?We anticipated we'd find rising rates, as other studies are suggesting, but we found an even higher incidence than the National Cancer Institute had reported using the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Result database, and in particular, a dramatic rise in women in their 20s and 30s?.
It has been informed that for the study, the researchers looked at the data of melanoma cases, which were recorded from 1970 to 2009. During the analyses the researchers found that the incidences of melanoma had grown by eightfold among young women and fourfold among men.
It is believed that young adult females are at the greater risk of being affected with skin cancer because of the tanning machines. However, it has further come to light that the mortality rates among the skin cancer patients have fallen dramatically.
It is believed that awareness about the skin cancer has made it possible to reduce the number of people succumbing to death because of skin cancer. During the beach holidays and while spending too much time in the tanning salons one can easily get affected with skin cancer.
The previous studies have showed that children who are exposed to too much of UV rays are at the risk of being affected with skin cancer in the later part of their life.
