Facebook Page-watch update: There are now more than 13 million Facebook Pages, up slightly from the 12.8 million reported about six weeks ago.
But two things to note about that statistic:
- It?s a worldwide count, not just US. I asked for a US count on Thursday, but Facebook declined to breakdown the number on a country-level basis.
- It?s not just business pages; the count includes all types of Facebook Pages, including those in the Community category.
In a sense, that second item actually makes the comparison between Facebook Pages and claimed local listings on Google even more apples-to-apples, because it?s not just local businesses claiming Google listings ? it?s also churches, non-profit organizations, etc.
Facebook?s Dan Levy shared several other Facebook Page stats during the BIA/Kelsey ILM West event on Thursday, including the following:
- Active local Pages have increased more than 40% since January.
- More than 300,000 Pages have promoted more than 2.5 million posts since promoted posts for businesses launched in June.
- More than a quarter of those businesses are new advertisers on Facebook.
- 75 percent of daily promoted posts advertisers are repeat customers.
- 150 million people visit Facebook Pages every day, and in the US, nearly half of these visits are happening on mobile.
Facebooks has faced some resistance in recent months over the effectiveness of Pages and the decline of non-paid visibility of posts by Pages. These numbers ? especially the ones related to Promoted Posts ? are clearly meant to help Facebook make the case that a great many Page owners (i.e., businesses) are adopting to the need to pay for visibility.
