Daily Kos: "Mormons Can't Drink Coffee but Apparently Lying to ...

Lost in the thicket of Romney's puts-Nixon-to-shame lies is a conversation that I'm surprised to have seen little of in this election season: Mitt's religion, which like Obama's Christianity, has been little-discussed (if you catch the ironic point there, kudos to you) and gone largely unexplored within the context of his unflinching ability to tell cold, hard lies fastly and loosely. ?Personally, I very much like my states separated from whatever your churches may be, thank you, and I mean that with a very much, but given what discrepancies between a man's professed faith and his actual actions say about that man's character, it's surprising to me that few people have discussed Romney's Lie Machine within the specific context of what Mormonism has to say about lying.

Some of you may be able to enlighten us, as I am helplessly ignorant on this topic, though I imagine that most faiths might, as an ethical matter, frown upon mendacity of the sort that misguides or hurts people, but I do find endlessly fascinating the implied irony of this statement: "Mormons can't drink coffee but apparently lying to millions of people is okay."

The inversion of something so many people find to be ethically neutral at worst (drinking coffee) and something so many people find ethically eyebrow-raising at best (lying to people's faces) strikes me as contradictorily interesting indeed.

Here are All Pants on Fire! [lies] involving Mitt Romney, as per Politifact. ?Keep in mind, these are not all the lies, merely 19 of the worst lies Romney's told:

Says Barack Obama "sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China" at the cost of American jobs.

"Under President Obama: $4,000 tax hike on middle-class families."

Says Barack Obama began his presidency "with an apology tour."

"Redistribution" has "never been a characteristic of America."

Barack Obama began his presidency "with an apology tour."

"Under Obama?s plan (for welfare), you wouldn?t have to work and wouldn?t have to train for a job. They just send you your welfare check."

President Barack Obama is "ending Medicare as we know it."

Ronald Reagan?s philosophy of "peace through strength" is why "the Iranians released the hostages on the same day and at the same hour that Reagan was sworn in."

Says in the 2012 State of the Union address, President Obama "didn't even mention the deficit or debt."

The U.S. military is at risk of losing its "military superiority" because "our Navy is smaller than it's been since 1917. Our Air Force is smaller and older than any time since 1947."

"We're only inches away from no longer being a free economy."

Says Barack Obama said, "If we keep talking about the economy, we?re going to lose."

President Obama "went around the world and apologized for America."

The Massachusetts health care plan "dealt with 8 percent of our population," far less than the "100 percent of American people" affected by President Barack Obama?s health care law.

"We're inches away from no longer having a free economy."

"A few months into office, (President Barack Obama) traveled around the globe to apologize for America."

"We are only inches away from ceasing to be a free market economy."

President Obama?s health care law "represents a government takeover of health care."

"I don't describe your plan as amnesty in my ad. I don't call it amnesty."

What an over-caffeinated lying mess.
